Art Spiegleman on CBC

I'd have loved to hear the interviewer ask: "What do you think about the fact that we're going to blur out the images of the Danish cartoons when this is aired? Do you think we are spineless, unwilling to stand up for free expression, or just total wimps?"

From the CBC website:

He's the only artist/illustrator to ever win the Pulitzer Prize. But why does Art Spiegelman think Canada is so uptight? Sunday's Carolynne Hew asks the man who depicted Holocaust victims as mice about the pitfalls of fighting for free expression.

Great interview...his skills in co-curating the comic portion of the Krazy! show at the Vancouver Art Gallery, though...another matter.

Morstad, von Szombathy, and Horacek

Nice little article from the Ottawa Citizen about recently (in the past 12 months) released books by Vancouver artists Julie Morstad, Chris von Szombathy, and Tom Horacek. All are part of the Petits Livres series of books published by Drawn and Quarterly.

Morstad, von Szombathy, and Horacec will all be appearing at Comix and Stories at the Vancouver Art Gallery on August 24th from 11am to 5pm. Kim Deitch is headlining, and Lucky's will be there too.
